Feminism

Fighting for women's rights doesn't make you a feminist...it makes you more human.

Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
I’m begging of you please don’t take my man
Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Please don’t take him just because you can
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you, jolene

He talks about you in his sleep
There’s nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name, jolene

And I can easily understand
How you could easily take my man
But you don’t know what he means to me, jolene

Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
I’m begging of you please don’t take my man
Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Please don’t take him just because you can

You could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
He’s the only one for me, jolene

I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do, jolene

Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
I’m begging of you please don’t take my man
Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Please don’t take him even though you can
Jolene, jolene

Joelene by Dolly Parton.

A tragically beautiful song. I think I might have met a Jolene in my life.

One Big Happy Dysfunctional Family

What is family*? I was taught to believe they are people who share the same ancestors, last name, and blood as me and that we are supposed to love and care for each other.

In actuality, it’s a bunch of fucking insane and selfish people whom, if you read about their antics in a gossip magazine, would avoid to be seen with that God made you related to. That’s would family. Not any of that bullshit your mothers tell you.

*I am specifically talking about extended family here as in my cousins and second cousins and my mom’s second cousin’s aunt. I love my parents and siblings dearly. And this might not be true for all families. You might have been God’s favorite and actually gotten cousins and uncles who aren’t bastards.

Heaven Lies at a Mother's Feet

At this time, I love the relationship I have with my mother. From a relationship where she mostly disciplined me for my bad behavior and tantrums, it has blossomed into a one in which she knows what I’m doing every second of the day, what I do when she’s not there, and what I’m feeling even when she is hours away from me.

Today we went for a drive. With the car blasting an Indian song and the top down, she told me two things that make all parents happy: that their children are good human beings and they accomplish every thing they undertake.

I’ve made mistakes…big and small. I haven’t accomplished everything…I’ve left opportunities pass me by. Yet deep inside, I know my beautiful mother still loves her daughter…simply because I am her daughter.

Freedom of Typed Words

I laughed when Pakistani Bloggers created a storm of anger when the Pakistani government banned Blogger.com. Oh no! They have no one to write to about their daily activities like going to the Khirachi beach or some café that sells coffee at high prices. Boo hoo. Do I need to remind you people that you live in a country where you rights are stepped on, spat on, and ignored every second of every day? God forbid if the government bans Blogger. Who cares about the poverty and corruption in the country?! Those are causes for people with time on their hands, right? You are to busy posting about your favorite movie.

I then laugh at myself for writing this. As a Pakistani, I can’t think of anything that I’ve done to help this country, but at least I hate coffee.
